about the teacher JONATHAN HART MAKWAIA is dedicated to expanding the role of voice in the performing arts and for personal growth. Having grown up within the avant-garde voice group, Roy Hart Theatre, during its pioneer years in London, he later served as musical director, composer and performer for the company from 1975 to 1988 (including OBIE award-winning Pagliacci at La MaMa ETC). Now based in New York City, he has collaborated with artists such as Ellen Stewart, Jean-Claude Van Itallie, Molissa Fenley and Kristin Linklater. The New York Times heralds him as an eloquent advocate for multiculturalism, describing his solo performance as "a spectacular display of vocal timbres and techniques." Jonathan has led workshops in over 20 countries and returns to lead courses at the Roy Hart Centre in France every summer. He has been on the faculty of New York University's Experimental Theatre Wing since 1988. Click here to read what ciritics say about Jonathan Hart Makwaia.
