The Teachers

Joy Leonard and Chris Nichols, co-founders of Synaesthetic Theatre, serve as the primary instructors for the company's Viewpoints workshops. Both studied with Viewpoints originator Mary Overlie and Master Teacher Wendell Beavers at New York University's Experimental Theatre Wing, where the technique has been developed and expanded over the last 20 years. Most recently, Nichols and Leonard taught the Viewpoints portion of NYU Special Programs’ "Master Workshop in Physical Theatre," a 2-credit summer course offered to acting teachers and led by Stephen Wangh (author, An Acrobat of the Heart). Synaesthetic Theatre has been offering engaging and affordable Viewpoints workshops in NYC since our inception in 1997.
