Synaesthetic Theatre is pleased to bring Master Teacher Wendell Beavers back to NYC for a weekend intensive workshop, CREATING
A THEATER OF SENSATION, PERCEPTION AND IMAGE: somatic sources & experimental aesthetics for the performer, January 31st and February 1st, 2009.
This workshop will focus on joining the compositional
Viewpoints elements of space and time to deeply kinesthetic work with breath, sound, emotional impulse and movement. Participants will
explore Image as container, source and product. Drawing on Developmental movement and experiential anatomy work based in Body Mind Centering™, the workshops will bring together Wendell's deeply organic and kinesthetic movement work and his physically exploratory approach
to theatrical performance. We will work with Developmental Movement Technique™ mornings, with improvisation and composition practice in the afternoon.
Newcomers to the practices of Viewpoints and Developmental Movement will still get a strong foundation to work from -- and participants from workshops previously offered by Wendell and Synaesthetic will find much that's new to engage their bodies and minds.
We are now accepting applications for this weekend intensive, which offers a rare opportunity to work with Wendell Beavers here in NYC! A founding faculty member and former Director of NYU's Experimental Theater Wing (ETW), Mr. Beavers currently Chairs Naropa University's MFA Theater: Contemporary Performance program. Mr. Beavers is an internationally recognized teacher and choreographer who has been a long-time collaborator with Mary Overlie, originator of the Viewpoints, and has worked closely with Synaesthetic Theatre, the SITI Co., and many directors and choreographers to create integrated dance/theater training and performance forms. The Naropa program, which he initiated in 2004, is establishing a new interdisciplinary paradigm in performance training integrating contemplative practice, psychophysical acting, somatic dance technique, extended vocal techniques, and viewpoints based aesthetics in directing and choreography.
